Like when you first meet me, our conversation is going to be awkward no matter what because I wouldn’t have any idea what to talk about. It’s also worse when you’re cute. But if you wait a little I’ll get comfortable talking with you. Then I’ll start talking so much that it’ll annoy you. I really do talk a lot.

I always thought most cockroaches had a social structure since it’s well documented in at least Madagascan hissing roaches, but science has finally taken a harder look.
Cockroaches recognize one another individually, communicate with one another about…

Last time, I briefly talked about the abundance of major 7 chords in Kirby music. Now, I’ll expand on that and tell about how often the IV-iii-ii-I chord progression, usually with each chord being either a major or minor 7th chord, is used in Kirby music. It’s not abused, but it’s used enough…
Reblogging this because, darn it, this is absolutely essential and well analyzed!
And also because oh-my-flying-shamoly, Jun Ishikawa is my top favorite video game composer ever.

I just realized today (and I should have earlier) that there is this street I pass by everyday on the way to school: Maplecrest St.
The neighborhood in which Filia’s school is located is called Maplecrest.

When YouTube starts preaching the truth, we have an issue.
Hello, government, do you see? We have an issue.just wow.
I really can’t describe how happy this makes me, that two opposing sides can agree on a common matter and relate without driving an argument.

Title: Two Simple Beings
Alternative Title: The Insignificant Life of Trevor Kakerlak
I planned for this to be the best piece in my portfolio and an example to show my improvement in digital art since the Dali parody. This took me the longest time out of any other piece I’ve worked on art-related. It was supposed to be slightly different but same subjects but I changed it because it was not a bit appealing. The background was nerve-wrecking and I am now irritated by its detail compared to the subjects’.
For a long time, I have been wanting to do a realistic version of Trevor, which I did two times before but the results were disgusting. For the piece, I modified his design. The yellow ringlets on his sleeves are not there. That is still part of his design. I just forgot to do it along the way and I was running out of time. His prosthetics have changed a bit and I intend on keeping it that way along with his antennae which used to resemble insect legs but now they’re just cockroach antennae. As for the girl on the right, unfortunately that is based of a photo of myself and I did not spend too much time on it because I was exhausted. She is part butterfly and is not a laborer in the factory Trevor inhabits. I made her to be something of an arrogant spiritual being whose wings were made of black butterfly silhouettes. It is a dichotomy of the poor and rich class, poor being the cockroach because they are just gross pests in our houses(who needs them anyways), and rich being the butterfly because they are beautiful and compliment our dandy days.
This is loosely based on the bigger project itself. This instance happens to Trevor but with another worker who is actually not a butterfly entomoid. Since the doctors and surgeons in the Ingno Weaponry Department are masters at their profession, they make no error in their surgery so Trevor doesn’t actually bleed due the prosthetic difficulties. Lastly, it’s a massive hidden factory in the middle of nowhere in the Ingno continent mostly composed of child laborers. The sky surrounding it is not that beautiful at all.
Overall, I am absolutely happy with this piece yet one of the reasons I am currently not doing any digital work.(slight break)

Title: Swarm
This is the last piece I did for my portfolio, It was done two weeks ago and is another ballpoint pen. While I was comfortable with humans with insect features, I wanted my last character to have the most structures of them all. In this case, I did a grasshopper to compliment an athletic guy racing with other grasshoppers. I actually rushed in this piece and I am not happy with the lack of perspective. However, I am pleased with the textures.

Title: Praying Mantix Girl
Alternative Title: Exploratory
Last year, I found a piece of paper in the recycling bin with grey and pink acrylic paint on it and finally used it in this last-week-of-deadline piece. I finished it Wednesday, again in the middle of the night. I didn’t get sleep so I could hardly concentrate in school. There wasn’t a planning period for this work except for that 1 PM brain blast of combining a child and a praying mantis. At first, I wanted to draw her scaling the blots of paint which would become a cave but because I didn’t feel like doing an undersketch, I shifted to her peering through the cave and finding a teddy bear which she accidentally ripped with her arms.

Title: The Honeycomb
This was done in the week of the deadline and was initially my drawing(excluding the watercolors) for printmaking which I was released from doing. I had an idea for some insect fashion especially with honeybees which don the most gorgeous golden yellow. It was hard to resist the subject. Well honestly, I think bees are cool from a distance but up close, I am afraid. The watercolor was the easiest part but the reapplication of ink over water color errors was annoying. Overall, I am pleased with everything except myself as the human subject simply because I’ve been in several other works in my portfolio. I was heading for various people but the limited time would not allow that.
